Here I am now, sober and doing my own thing. When I first got sober, I didn't have a partner, and my friends were still really into drinking. But I still wanted to live my life, go out, and meet people. I still needed to be me.

I think because I was so used to being independent from all those years of traveling for work all over Canada, the States, and Europe, and from moving to new cities by myself, I just kept doing things on my own. If I waited for someone else, it just wouldn't happen. So, I went for it, and I still do.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love fashion. You'll always find me at fashion shows and runway events. Anything fashion-related, I'm there. And being sober didn't stop me from that. This picture was taken when I popped in to see a friend before heading off to Fashion Week in Toronto. She snapped it right before I left.

Sometimes, sobriety feels really scary. We worry we'll lose who we are without alcohol, that we'll miss out on things and stop doing what we enjoy. But what we often discover is that we actually end up doing more of what we love, and we do it with real confidence. It feels like we're losing out, but really, we're winning and letting go of anything that wasn't good for us anyway.

You'll get there. You'll see that you'll become the person you always wanted to be. It just takes time, maybe a few tough lessons along the way, but eventually, it all comes together.
